Review of Dirty Grandpa (2016) by Brett H — 24 Apr 2016

Dirty Grandpa is essentially the same film as Jackass', Bad Grandpa, about a raunchy elder who goes on a road trip with his nephew, except believe it or not, the Jackass crew had more taste, and this unfunny, steaming turd was almost TORTURE to sit through.

Oh, how the mighty have indeed fallen and while I can understand why De Niro would be interested in taking on a looser role such as this, the material just isn't there and the film's reliance on gross-out gags and crude dialogue passed my breaking point after about 30 minutes.

The movie is loaded with low-brow humor to an unbearable degree and you can only hear so much cussing and ridiculous dialogue before your brain tunes it out and you're simply waiting for it all to end.

Zac Efron really impressed me with his comedic chops in, Neighbours, but he has no business being in this extremely lame shit-fest and I honestly just felt bad for all of the cast involved. The trailer had me in stitches, in particular due to, Aubrey Plaza's incredibly risque portrayal of a college girl who loves to sleep with older men, but alas, that's all their is to her character and at no point did I ever believe her and many of the other characters ever existed in the real world.

The bottom-line is that this film is just too stupid to recommend, I love silly, outrageous humour, but there has to be some credibility involved and when you have police officers who act like idiots and let a known drug-dealer free again-and-again as well as letting him borrow their cruiser just for a laugh; I'm sorry, but your film needs work.

I will admit that I got a few chuckles here and there with a well-placed line, but this film is pretty much worthless aside from seeing, Robert De Niro cut loose and act like you've never seen him before; that's all it has to offer.
