Review of Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights (2004) by Michelle F — 18 Oct 2009
This movie is so vibrant and terrific that I just fell in love with it the first time I watched it. I have it on dvd to enjoy again and again. wonderful chemistry between the two leads. diego luna is very nice looking and love his accent which he changed slightly to be authentic because he actually is from mexico and like the title says this takes place in cuba.
I wouldn't of known the difference until I watched the extras on my dvd that he did that but I give him credit for putting in the extra effort to add to his performance. I have seen two of his foreign language movies-y tu mama tambien and the night buffalo(the title is of course in spanish but that is what it translated to) but havana nights is my fave of his.
I don't know if romola garai will be around for awhile even though she is good but I think he definitely. he just has a charisma beyond his looks that you can't take your eyes off him. the dancing and songs of course add so much to the already impressive setting of cuba in the 60s.
it is easy to get swept up in just like she did. It is wonderful that they could find love even for a short while while all the ugliness of politics was going on around them. they made the most of their time together.
recommend this movie to anyone especially diehard romantics!
