Review of Dinosaur (2000) by Miguel S — 28 Jul 2011
I've always been a dinosaur freak (Some would say just a freak!), so it was a pretty good bet I'd like this Disney animated film. Technically & visually brilliant, with stunning imagery, exciting action-packed sequences, & beautiful character design.
Among the "House of Mouse"'s many talents is matching actors' voices to their characters, and here they certainly don't disappoint--Joan Plowright as the gi-normous and stately Brachiosaur Baleen, the late Ossie Davis as the wizened lemur Yar, Samuel E Wright as the brutally-forceful Iguanodont Kron, Peter Siragusa as Kron's burly-and-surly right-hand dino Bruton, & Della Reese as the ancient and grandmotherly Ceratopsian Eema provide some wonderful voice-work! The only drawback (And I'm grasping at straws here--) is this is essentially a bigger-scaled re-telling of Don Bluth's "The Land Before Time"--with an almost identical plot & outcome, although it doesn't diminish my love for the film.
