Review of Dinosaur (2000) by Matt W — 28 May 2013
Childhood memories. It's strange how things come back to you after so long.
I remember loving this movie in my 4-5 year old self, and then crapping myself on the Disney ride. The main reason I loved this film was for the villains, or the Carnotaurs- and although now when I watch it they are just one dimensional evil dinosaurs, they are still really cool.
This film has many problems with a weak script with many 'nothingness' characters, and it is fair to say that some of the effects don't hold up today, but to be fair a lot does . Most of the humor is cringe worthy, and it does seem to lack that Disney magic, but I did still enjoy it . The meteor scene is still impressive with the mix of CGI animation and 'real' footage- it gave the film a very epic feel.
Although not a classic, I think it is a great family film, and was one I was definitely obsessed with as a child for a few of the set pieces. And also they are dinosaurs, and dinosaurs just make everything better.. Unless you're Land of the Lost.
