Review of Dinner for Schmucks (2010) by Kurt F — 01 Oct 2012
Although the original idea is from a French play and film called Le Diner de Cons, the core concept and feel is the same as countless other US comedies. It's similar to other buddy comedies where two unlikely characters are drawn together by a series of events.
An excellent example is John Hughes' Planes, Trains & Automobiles starring Steve Martin and John Candy. Dinner for Schmucks is not in the same league at all. At times it feels quite mean spirited and at others it's just too silly, however I found some moments extremely funny probably due to them being darker and odder than your average US comedy.
Oh, and I liked the stuffed mice. This comedy isn't fresh but for the most part I was entertained.
