Review of Dinner for Schmucks (2010) by Emmanuel S — 06 Jul 2014
For as long as movie making started in Hollywood, they have been remaking or outright copying French movies. This movie is no exception! Dinner For Schmucks is a pathetic, moronic and just plain unfunny movie.
I rarely walk out of movie theaters but thankfully I didn't watch this crap in one!! The story has a vague forgettable plot which resembled the original. The characters are NOT funny and therefore don't allow the viewers to identify or even sympathize with them.
Once again the golden rule of remakes in Hollywood turns out to be true!! Having seen the original, highly successful and hilarious French comedy Le dîner de cons, written and directed by Francis Veber.
Dinner For Schmucks is nothing like it!!! The title is already an almost literal translation of the French title. Just replacing the French word 'con' with the Yiddish word 'Schmuck' and you have it- Steve Carell, who is usually funny and a comedic expert, completely fails at being remotely amusing.
Even New Zealand born Jermaine Clement slightly above average performance cannot save this film from disaster. Trust me and don't waste your Time or money on this movie! If you do decide to watch it, you will be sorry.
And this is not a threat.
