Review of Dilwale (2015) by Ravi N — 30 Mar 2016
One of the points of this movie was to nod to other movies that SRK and Kajol were in together, but it ended up becoming one of the flaws in this film. The comedy was also forced and the story read like something that really should have been more drama than comedy.
I can see why some people just can't put up with this movie. That said, despite its flaws, I did enjoy the movie. Veer and Ishita were well balanced to each other and Veer was very endearing. I also liked the visuals whether it was the color usage in "Gerua" or the forehead touch towards the end of the movie and other small moments.
It's a shame that this was a Rohit Shetty movie because given to another director it really could have been something better. That said, if I was flipping channels and ran into it, I'd probably watch it again.
It had enough redeeming qualities to outweigh the awkwardness of some parts and the flaws in the writing and comedy.
