I still believe this movie is way ahead of its time. True, it has Shah Rukh, one of the most stereotyped actors in Hindi cinema, but Mani Ratnam was able to draw an interesting performance from him. It's so much more than just a tale about political intrigue or romance.
It explores the many shades of love... light and dark. A completely ravaging experience. Not to mention an iconic soundtrack by Rahman.
