Review of Dil Se.. (1998) by Arun D — 27 Sep 2010
Beautiful piece of art.
This is one of the greatest and most crafted works of the incredible Mani Ratnam. I was stunned by every scene.
In the full sense of the words, to the film in such a delicate way that you cannot leave the screen even for one moment (even if you are one of those who prefer skipping the songs). Every dialogue, every scene, every incident, every song is extremely well made and important to the film's proceedings.
Every artist involved in this film gives one of his best. As said, Mr Ratnam, in one of his finest works; A.R Rahman, with one of the most crafted movie soundtracks he has ever composed.
The performances are brilliant. Shahrukh Khan, in one of his most accomplished and realistic performances, is intense, witty, vulnerable, believable and convincing as Amar.
Manisha Koirala, one of the most talented dramatic actresses India has seen, is flawless as Meghna.
Preity Zinta, the star herself in her debut film, does something very few actors have been capable of doing: she makes a great impact despite a very small role.
Well, this one is a picture of great artistic excellence.
The film is serious, intelligent, somewhat dark and intense.
