Review of Digimon: The Movie (2000) by Philip S — 13 Jun 2007
TIME TO DIGI-SLIIIIDE!!!
Loved the crazy animation style with the monotoned colors and simplistic methoed of drawing his characters, and Hosoda's direction with his movies (somebodey else please watch "The Girl Who Lept Through Time"). Fox somewhat came through with dubbing and editing this movie as clearly and consistantly as possible. Those that have watched the originial, uncut Japanese versions of the movies will know what I'm talking about.
With all of the fast dialouge and time-line hopping, some moments just feel very rushed which doesn't leave the view a whole lot of time to let some moments sink in like it should've been. Sometimes, they would worry about trying to crack a few jokes rather than letting everything unfold on it's own, not only killing the mood, but a displacement of comedy and action was abound. Though this came to be faulty, the action is always at.
Even though the rush did leave some sentiments behind, it actually sets up for many of the action packed battles that took place that would leave any hardcore Digimon fan in awestruck of the elegant movements displayed by each fighting Digimon, and their deadly yet beautifully animated attacks.
Digimon movie is a beautifully action-packed, fast-paced adventure of remanisance and a look towards the future of the franchise; but please do yourself a favor and watch the original movies.
