Review of Dig (2012) by Matthew R — 10 Mar 2008
Mirthful, like a real life Spinal Tap with additional ferocity. This rockumentary explores the fracturing affiliation between '90s bands, The Brian Jonestown Massacre and The Dandy Warhols, in particular, their rival front men: tortured but prolific BJM song writing mastermind, Anton Newcombe and the camp, self-absorbed Courtney Taylor of the Dandies.
Egos, the deteriorating tolerance of one another, escalating drug use, absurd narcissism, resentful jealousy, puffed up pettiness and delusions of grandeur all ensure there is little to connect and identify with character-wise, but it's really enjoyable as a kind of impetuous, rock and roll, car crash, freak show.
