Another wildly improbable outing for New York policeman John McClane as he almost single-handedly battles an army of German terrorists trying to blow up New York and steal tons of gold. But this one was much more entertaining and suspenseful than Die Hard 2, and was nearly as good as the original Die Hard.

A big part of what made this work was Jeremy Irons as the terrorist leader and Samuel L. Jackson as a hapless bystander who tries to be a good Samaritan and ends getting roped into the adventure against his will.

The chemistry between Wilis and Jackson is great, while Irons makes a villain almost as delightfully evil as Alan Rickman's character in the first Die Hard. The pacing, editing, stunt work, and ridiculously over-the-top, last-minute escapes from certain death make this a non-stop thrill ride.
