Review of Die Hard 2 (1990) by Thel M — 08 Nov 2011
How can the same shit happen to the same guy twice? Die Hard 2 once again, sees New York cop John McClane in the wrong place at the wrong time. However, contradictory to belief, Die Hard 2 is a more than satisfying and underrated sequel; it's an awesome machine of mayhem filled with explosive entertainment.
Die Hard 2 is a skilled follow-up loaded with bigger action, a faster pace and more momentum than the original and is a worthy successor. With great supporting characters and a typically strong performance from Bruce Willis as the everyday-mans 007, he shows why he was unusual among Hollywood's action men of the eighties.
Not only could Willis carry a one-liner better than everybody else, but he was also capable of being vulnerable at the same time as being invincible, a rare talent during the eighties. The film contains many plot similarities to the ground breaking original but that's what makes it great.
It may not hit as hard as the original but Die Hard 2 is pure escapist entertainment. Yippee ki-yay.
