The strengths of Die Hard 1 become the weaknesses of Die Hard 2: mainly, McClane's sour-but-plausible happenstance is a convenient-and-ridiculous premise here, and the compelling villain of Die Hard 1 is exchanged for a somewhat trite posse in Die Hard 2.
And ugh: Dennis Franz's captain is the antithesis of Reggie VelJohnson's lovable Sgt. Powell.
