Review of Die Another Day (2002) by Dylan B — 25 Jul 2010
The final Bond film to star Pierce Brosnan as Agent 007 may be a film that just goes along with the basic Bond formla, but it isn't all that bad. Since this film marked the 40th anniverary of the series and was the 20th film in the series, this is a memorable one in the franchise.
Die Another Day opens with Bond leads a mission in North Korea. However, Bond's identity is revealed and he is captured and tortured for months after killing a rogue colonel named Tan-Sun Moon. After being released, Bond looks to find out who had betrayed him. Along with NSA Agent Giacinta 'Jinx' Johnson (Halle Berry), Bond finds out the true intentions of entrepreneur Gustav Graves (Toby Stephens) who (SPOILER ALERT) is revealed to be Moon, who survived his encounter with Bond and changed his identity.
The main reason people criticized this film is because of its overuse of CGI. I do admit, I thought it was a bit too much. However, this film has some redeeming factors. For one thing, director Lee Tamahori is a good director and he does a good job with this film. This film also has great Bond girls with Jinx and double agent Miranda Frost (Rosamund Pike).
In short, it isn't Brosnan's best Bond film (that much can be certain), but it is better than TND. I think that it is Brosnan's 3rd best Bond movie.
