Review of Die Another Day (2002) by Daniel C — 14 May 2012
Pierce Brosnan's last outing as Bond in what is (for the moment) the last of the Bond films that felt like a Bond film.
James Bond is sold out on a mission in North Korea and detained for some time. When he comes out, Gustav Graves has made a fortune and the most popular person in the UK. Bond's adventures take him to Cuba and then to Iceland where he faces off against two old foes.
I remember in 2002 when this film came out. It was great, it was typically Bond and who wouldn't find an invisible Aston Martin Vanquish or a giant space laser cool? Watching the movie 10 years on, the effects have aged and the film is less memorable/enjoyable than it used to be which is quite a shame. I still believe it has one of the worst Bond theme songs ever and the darker feel to it was a lot more obvious with more in your face violence than the subtleties we had become used to in previous adventures.
It would take a few years before the next movie and that would be in a reboot (of sorts) for the franchise and see the death of Q-branch...
