Review of Die Another Day (2002) by Scott C — 22 Mar 2013
This is quite possibly the Baman & Robin or Catwoman of the Bond franchise. This was also the first one I saw. After watching it again recently, the dialogue was cringe-worthy, the plot was all over the place, the villain was a cartoon, the tone was uneven, and the action scenes, while sometimes fun, relied too much on CGI and slow/fast motion.
The tidal wave scene was unintentionally hilarious! Invisible car... need I say more? I know aircraft have cloaking devices, but... invisible car... and it drove up the walls too, which brought back bad memories of the Schumacker era Batmobile.
What's next, A BOND CREDIT CARD? Brosnan was getting old and Halle Berry is the only actress I've seen nominated for an Oscar and a Razzie in the same year. That said, if you leave your brain at the door, it's a standard and enjoyable action film.
For me though, it's too Matrix and not enough Bond.
