Review of Die Another Day (2002) by Sam N — 21 Apr 2012
This movie represents the culmination of terrible writing, acting, and plot that came to define the Pierce Brosnan Bond era, despite the brilliance of Goldeneye. Where was the silky, subtle innuendo between a classy, intelligent Bond and a nympho-maniacal Xenia Onatop (femur-fatale), the cyber battle between computer nerds ("They're right in front of you.
..and can open very large doors"), the showdown between 00 agents ("For England, James?" "No, for me")? Great coitus interruptus finale, too: grass field erupts into a company of hay-gilly marines whose leader offers to get Bond and gal a room where they can finish "debriefing each other.
" In comparison, Die Another Day was blunt and uninspired from start to finish. I don't want to ruin the plot, so I'll just say that a battle of puns vs. the lead henchman was never at any point a good idea.
Nor was the grotesque final exchange between Bond and Halle Barre. That quality humor wouldn't even pass in an American Pie sequel.
