This movie had some promise as a decent romantic comedy. Unfortunately, they picked the wrong woman for the lead. Sarah Jessica Parker tries to infuse her role from SITC, but fails horribly. Hugh Grant does a great job as the groveling ex (of course he's well versed in romantic comedies and groveling)! And the supporting cast is great.
But you know your movie is in trouble when the supporting cast demonstrates more chemistry than your leads. Sam Elliott and Mary Steenburgen show their acting chops and easily outshine the leads. Other than the screen chemistry and script, the other major flaw is the total lack of care you have for SJP's character.
She's completely independent and fierce, but take away her tech toys and she acts like a complete moron. Riiiight.
