Review of Dickie Roberts: Former Child Star (2003) by Beth P — 04 Aug 2008
Before The Surreal Life was on television, this movie was hysterical. Now, the same actors who were playing themselves realistically (that was the joke) have their own television shows again. At the time, the idea really -was- absurd. But today it's completely plausible that you could turn on the television and see a reality show about a washed up child star trying to live with a real family. And unfortunately, that reality show would be funnier than this.
This fact makes me feel more disappointed in our culture than in this film. Very mixed feelings on this one - don't push me or you'll end up in the middle of a rant about VH1.
