Review of Dick Tracy (1990) by Don M — 11 Jan 2009
This film is extraordinary alone for being a Warren Beatty project -- it's so wildly different to anything he's ever done, and even more so when you consider he's the main man in charge here, as star-director-producer.
It's such a vibrant-looking film and has a cast to DIE for. The Dick Tracy universe comes with a colourful rogues' gallery of groteseques, and Beatty's idea of casting all his superstar friends and burying them beneath makeup to play these villains is a stroke of pure genius.
Sure, some of the film is a little juvenile, but the source material has the same tendencies. Overall, it's all a bit of fun.
