Review of Diary of the Dead (2007) by Pete L — 06 Feb 2009
I have to see pretty much every zombie movie, so I finally got around to this one. This may be faint praise, but it wasn't as bad as I thought it might be, given the gimmicky first-person camcorder style and the college kid characters. The characters actually weren't quite the cliches they at first seemed, although the acting wasn't great by any means.
The journalistic "I'm going to show the truth" theme of the film-within-the-film was compelling at times. My overall lasting impression though was that for a zombie film... this simply wasn't that scary. There were no heart-pounding, tense, frightening, or even memorable scenes involving the zombies - and that's not good.
