Review of Diary of the Dead (2007) by Joe N — 23 Mar 2010
This movie was... I honestly can't say. On the one hand, the story was great, the characters were realistic and easy to envision, and the FPS cam and timeline style was a great way to get people really really into the film, like they were in the scenarios themselves.
But then there were the issues... the acting was either lackluster or over dramatic the majority of the time, the pace sort of slogged along, and it certain scenes were ridiculous. The Amish man simply flinching and spearing himself and the zombie all at once was bull, same with the acid and the majority of zombie kills, really.
The editing pissed me off, too. Like Debra would've actually have taken the time, as she said, to edit in spooky music and cheap sound effects to the scenes of her family being killed, that much was hard to swallow.
And then the whole banjo playing "Don't mess with Texas" scene pissed me off, what cheap comedy. Then again, this was meant to be passed off as a film made by college kids, so I guess it all works out.
