Review of Diary of the Dead (2007) by Lewis D — 30 Jan 2011
A mild adventure that lacks perfection, Diary of the dead decides to combine zombies and the Blair witch project. So for you readers who have never seen a zombie film or the Blair witch project, that previous statment means combining awesome with shit.
Romero cleary hopes to comment on a media enslaved society in this flick by showing a group of film students documenting a zombie apocalpse. And this is about all the one trick pony has. The rest of the movie is predictable crap, including which caharacters die and if you love films enough which order they die in.
However DotD does have one saving feature: the fantastic Shawn Roberts returning in a zombie film, this time playing a lead role. Roberts fans may remember him as the kid in Land of the Dead who gets bitten over some ciagers in the opening sequence, or as Albert Wesker in Resident Evil Afterlife. Roberts adds class to an otherwise tedious cast of survivors making all the regular mistakes trying to survive zombies.
So to conclude, a disappointmet only just worth your time watching. Although it is miles better than Survival of the Dead, you really should just watch Romero's early work if you want a zombie adventure because this is just for die hard fans.
