Review of Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul (2017) by Paul L — 15 Aug 2017
Diary of a Wimpy Kid : The Long Haul... Its seems the poster had more faith in the film than diehard Wimpy Kid fans as it proudly boasts A wimp 'will rise'..... well it seems fall or flop would have summed it up better.
Where does it all go wrong? Firstly with the choice in actors. Most film franchises especially Harry Potter realise that it's a bad thing to recast new actors into established character roles. Unfortunately that's where it goes wrong immediately for WK.
Then it just gets worse, best friend Rowley who features so much in the other films is reduced to a cameo role which is a shame. The story of the long cross country haul seems lame with few laugh out loud moments.
In fact its like a child proofed version of The Vacation (funny cross country trip but for adults!). All in, the books are fun and the first few film outings are generally funny, but this bombs and stinks a little of "lets keep whipping the cash cow!" Note to production studio, bring back the original cast and get some comedy writers! Conclusion: You'll watch it once, wish you hadn't and then never watch it again!
