I have to say the first Diary of a Wimpy Kid didn't impress me much, but this made up for it a lot. The characters overall were more likable where as in the first one I disliked almost all of them, especially the main kid and it followed him.
This one seemed to expand on the range of how much you saw and knew of the other characters in a perspective way, and that was a definite plus.
