Review of Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days (2012) by Nathan C — 30 Apr 2013
Surprisingly not a terrible family flick. I refused to see the first two "Wimpy Kid" movies, yet I was suckered into watching this installment. Even so, it's really funny and actually enjoyable! However, it's merely a decent movie because there's not much that makes it special.
There's nothing like reliving the pain of your middle school summers to enhance the humor and sly sense of fun here. The kid actors are alright, but Steve Zahn steals the show as the crazed father who tries to make himself superior.
The summer scenery is fairly pleasant compared to the classroom. I do have to give props to the cover of "Baby" at the end, which easily surpasses the original. Good messages abound. Overall, you're not missing much, but it is nice, clean family fluff that will make for an entertaining hour and a half.
