Review of Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days (2012) by Mloy X — 25 Jan 2014
Greg Heffley (Zachary Gordon): I can't believe it's so crowded here. Maybe we should come back.
Rodrick Heffley (Devon Bostick): How about never? Does never sound good?
The first film was charming and unique but by this third film, the jokes are stale and the bloom is off the rose. What was novel about this franchise has turned tedious and repetitive. The main protagonist, Greg Heffley was, in the beginning, a pitiful but loveable loser. But in the third installment, he's a bit more of a jerk. He only cares about his own interests and the unconditional love and affection from his best parents and his "best friend" Rowley, is seldom if not never reciprocated by Greg himself unless it benefits him directly or when he's left no other alternative because it is "the right thing to do". Daddy Heffley was right, Greg is a disappointment, as a son, as a friend, as a human being. Greg deserves to be miserable and alone.
