Review of Diary of a Wimpy Kid (2010) by Huw P — 31 May 2011
What stuck me while watching this movie was how amoral the lead character is; every kids movie has a central character that has something wrong or different with them that they have to deal with to learn the important life lesson but this guy was more spoilt, self-centred and needy then most; of course that is the point and the hook that grabs the kids' attentions.
Diary of a wimpy kid is not anything different really then most standard kids films and follows a similar format; new environment (school), a goal in mind/challenge to overcome, etc. etc.
So not anything amazing for anyone over teen age. Kids, it's target audience, will enjoy the film though, with the gags, situations and chaos the main character gets himself into. The main delight of this film is Devon Bostick who plays older brother rodrick. His increased inclusion in the next film should make it more watchable for adults.
