Review of Diary of a Mad Black Woman (2005) by Damon N — 16 Apr 2008
Definitely entertaining. many parts of it are very funny. elise really does do a good job, and is very believable, to me. the message is good and the movie is going well... then harris' character meets with tragedy and I felt like a second movie started.
it didn't quite fit elise's character to be so vindictive and calculating. sure, he was a jerk, and I do not think they should have gotten back together by any means. i'd probably never speak to him again.
HOWEVER, being so callous and cruel, even to one who 'did you wrong' and 'deserves it' helps no one. just walk away. it is just as harmful to the torturer as it is the tortured, even if it is harder to spot.
there isn't any healing or moving forward in revenge. I won't say i'm above it. i'm human. but it soured a great movie with some wonderful themes and a positive, forward thinking beginning.
move your life forward, don't crawl back to the past to give it a good swift kick. then you just have to crawl back forward.
