Review of Diana (2013) by Matthew F. J — 06 Nov 2013
This film directed by Oliver Hirschbiegel sounded promising, interesting even a little mysterious. but unfortunately it's not a great film, it's just descent enough for the theatres but to be honest it has more the appeal of a huge TV movie than a real cut for theatrical release.
That being said the central character portrayed by talented actress Naomi Watts has appeal, she doesn't look like Diana but completely mastered her ways, the speech, the mimics, the way she walked or stood, she's brilliant & would have deserved to be in a much better film.
Naveen Andrews is pretty convincing as the DR. Khan and the rest of the supporting cast is good enough even though they all have tiny parts. Choosing to focus only on the love story tends to make the film look like a romantic glossy cover magazine.
... everything in the film is so good about Diana, she is shown as a total saint dedicated to others and by the end of the film you almost wonder how come they haven't canonized her Saint Diana patron of the poor & unfortunates.
.. People who love to read Gossip magazine will love this film to bits, unfortunately the rest of will probably be annoyed & bored by the end of this glossy romantic melodrama.
