Review of Diamonds Are Forever (1971) by Tim M — 01 Aug 2008
Not Connery's best Bond but more enjoyable than some. This began the more overt humor in the series and the inclusion of sight gags and larger than life stunts and escapes. Fun, yet the plot feels loose.
Connery maybe should have left You Only Live Twice as his last. There is definitely no feeling of being tied in to the last Bond. Blofeld had been given a sore neck and Bond had lost his wife to Blofeld yet they seem calm and comfortable around each other in this one (????!!!! I don't get that - I would be pretty ticked myself).
Still, it feels like Bond and is enjoyable even if not as sure of itself as previous Bond films.
