Review of Diamonds Are Forever (1971) by Justin T — 21 Dec 2011
After Lazenby's failure as Bond the return of Sean Connery to the role is greatly welcomed. This one is OK. Its not terrible but not one of the greatest in the series. The plot is cheesy and all over the place.
The evil villain clones himself and is stealing diamonds to create a powerful satellite laser beam which he uses to cause mayhem around the world. (Austin Powers anyone?) The Circus Circus Casino in Vegas is where most of the action is including the police car chase on the Vegas strip.
Strange random circumstances continuously pop-up surprising you like the fake moon landing where Bond steals a moon vehicle and drives it through the desert while being chased by 3 wheelers. This film also has the two weird sub-villains as a side story with their own agenda to acquire the diamonds.
The movie ends with an explosive battle on an oil rig. One minor bonus is the intro song "Diamonds Are Forever" which was later remixed by Kanye West decades later.
