Review of Diamonds Are Forever (1971) by Zachary Z — 26 Dec 2012
James Bond (Sean Connery) is working an undercover case that involves a diamond smuggling racket. That much also occurs in Ian Fleming's novel of the same name, but the movie forces the plot into the direction of a satellite laser which threatens the entire world.
Connery's return to the 007 franchise also heralds the return of silly gadgets, cheeky dialogue, and an over-the-top storyline. Fortunately, Diamonds Are Forever also possesses some cool stunts, entertaining villains, and a hell of a Bond girl (Jill St.
John). This turned out to be Connery's final performance in the official series, but it's a fun note to go out on.
