Review of Diamonds Are Forever (1971) by Jake A — 26 Jun 2011
After the tragic ending to the last movie, I expected a much better pre-title sequence and I just don't get the feeling that Bond is out for revenge for the murder of his wife (it doesn't even get mentioned) and the plot isn't as good as the novel.
The two saving factors for this are the return of Sean Connery (for a hefty price of £1.2 million) and the action is good though underwhelming compared to previous Bond movies. The camp tone that plagued Moonraker 8 years later is evident here too which doesn't help and the only really good villain is Blofeld, at least they got the title song right along with the score.
