Review of Diamonds Are Forever (1971) by Ken S — 21 Nov 2012
Sean Connery is Back! And he's phoning it in. Connery clearly returned to the role of Bond purely for the deal he got in order to do so...because you can kinda tell he is thinking how he just has to make it through filming this, and he gets tons of cash, and United Artists will fund two projects of his choice.
So he returned, but he isn't giving his all, and at times he just looks like he might be just a bit bored with the role. You can't really blame him, he had already played the character 5 times.
Beyond Connery, the plot is rather forgettable, some of the action is decent, Mr. Wint and Mr. Kidd are creepy as hell, and Charles Gray is okay but not perfect as Blofeld. There are still some good Connery as Bond moments, but not as many as in earlier films.
The film has mixed results, but at least it doesn't have George Lazenby.
