Review of Dial M for Murder (1954) by Damien C — 12 Dec 2015
Based off of a play, it definitely is filmed and feels like a play (taking place about 99% in one location). The acting is good, but it's tone is a little jarring, being a dark comedy and a tense thriller at the same time.
The plot is a bit ridiculous, with the police concocting a complicated ruse for really no reason when they already had plenty of evidence to reach a conviction. It's okay, but the most exciting scene happens in the first half of the movie, with the second half being entirely dialogue with characters trying to explain the plot.
Not Hitchcock's best, but a pretty quick and entertaining watch.
