Review of Diabolique (1996) by Evalena I — 21 Oct 2008
This remake was everything I disliked the original corrected, and everything I liked about the orginal bastardized. It has a good, if traditional, score, and a real suspensful mood. But, like the original, it drags and drags.
Elements are thrown into the film aren't really necesarry (i.e. the lesbian elements that were only implied in the orginal are brought out here). It's even given a different third act, giving the movie a more Hollywood feel.
Also, this is one of those "homage" remakes that follow so much of the orginal, you almost wondred why you didn't just watch the orginal again. The sets, the props, the timing of plot points, and even Sharon Stone's performance are just copies from the original.
