Review of Dhoom 3 (2013) by Hussain H — 24 Dec 2013
The brevity of the story and the time span of the movie is disappointing. The script heavily lacks depth and to make it worse the audience have to abide through brainless action and clueless plot. There are so many low points in this movie. Let's start:
1. The previous two movies were based on how the robberies were executed. This movie runs for almost 3 hours and all we get is dollar bills raining down the bank (which is actually a rip-off from now you see me).
2. The other focal point of the previous movies was how the robbers escaped away from the crime scene. I hope was hoping something intelligent and never seen before stuff in this movie and was really disappointed by lack of creativity. A transformer bike? Really? Sorry but that has been done to death in a lot of movies.
3. It seems like Indian movie makers have run out of ideas. The concept of magic, illusions and deception is copied from the wonderful Christopher Nolan movie, The Prestige. The joker cards and chasing scene were very similar to the Dark Knight trilogy. The Dark Knight trilogy was also shot in Chicago.
4. Katrina Kaif hardly has any real role in the movie. Except in the circus scenes, she is seldom seen.
5. After watching a lot of pathetic and gravity defining action in recent Indian movies, the action scenes in the start of this movie were awful. Abhishek riding auto and bashing goons while driving the auto, Uday and Abhishek challenges gravity and bash up goons yet again... Einstien would have fainted! Aamir can ride a bike on a rope.
6. The movie builds up nicely till the interval which is also the climax of the movie. The whole movie is based on the double role of Aamir Khan....and how does the police get to know about this? A pathetic little scene where Abhishek watches them hiding on the top of an elevator. Really? No investigation? The biggest secret Aamir Khan possessed is exposed to the police in that little scene. There are so many creative ways that this could have been done.
A very disappointing movie considering it was an Aamir Khan film. In the last decade Aamir Khan has done some of finest movies of Indian cinema. Movies like Dil Chahta Hai, Lagaan, Mangal Pandey, Rang De Basanti, Taare Zameen Per and 3 Idiots cemented his legacy as one of the best but Dhoom 3 tells a different story.
