Review of Dhoom 2 (2006) by Matt R — 21 Feb 2010
Shallow, trite, and action-packed, this movie is a ridiculous, Indian-flavored cheese ball. Big-name stars doing silly dances to techno themes is the name of the game; there must be a little bit of a caste bent, as well, with the interplay between the top cop (Bachchan, son of the inimitable Amitabh), who handily throws out snappy English phrases (with a heavy accent) and his silly sidekick "Ali," who sings "Excuse Me to Please" to his flame.
Loads of unresolved plot twists (does Ali actually get married? What happened to Jai Dixit's wife - did she have that baby?), but then again story isn't really the point. It's the flash, the glamor, the chases, the heists, and above all - the hip-gyrating dancing. You could have cut out 50+% of this movie and just kept the heists, and you'd come out with a real gem. As it stands, you have something of an asinine mess that's quite too long.
