Review of Dhobi Ghat (2010) by Nandita A — 19 Mar 2011
Truly an "art" film in a very long time. At a lot of places, it felt like a documentary on Mumbai. We are presented with four characters, each with their own perspective of life. I think the movie does a good job of showing a slice of life of each character and especially what their ambitions and dreams are.
It's a very different, low-key movie. Don't expect any sort of commercial or mainstream fare. Aamir Khan is great as the reclusive and quiet Arun. Monica Dogra is a natural. Prateik Babar plays his character with a lot of innocence.
The most interesting character, for me, was Yasmin (played by Kriti Malhotra). So yeah - good movie, a little slow, but very interesting.
