Review of Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal (2007) by Usman L — 29 Nov 2007
Having seen my fair share of football-themed films, I was a little skeptical about this one. The action takes place in Southall, London and revolves around the trials and tribulations of lower league Southall United Football Club.
Southall FC is home to a diverse range of footballers, Pakistan's, Indians, Bangladeshis. All with contrasting skills when it comes to playing the game.
The usual suspects are present, the captain who wants to win at all costs, a coach that is looking to restore pride to a chequered sporting past (ala Chak De) and a hero (Abraham) who inevitably rises to the challenge to restore pride at the club and win his estranged father's respect. There is a by-the-numbers storytelling feel to it but it does have a very well-choreographed fnale which is worth the price of admission.
The only down side is some of the dialogue is shockingly bad ( 'bahut sexy.' - contributed by Bipasha Basu in her worst role) and some of the sound editing is poor, dialogue seems to be spoken but the actors lips aren't moving?!?
Overall, a decent sports-themed film and thankfully only one (bad) song to sit through.
