Review of Devotion (2022) by Bertobellamy — 14 Dec 2022
It is somewhat unfortunate that 'Devotion' was released just half a year after 'Top Gun: Maverick;' the comparisons have been inevitable. Although it doesn't reach the emotion of the latter, you gotta praise its commitment to both practical effects and a social cause (the fight against racism).
Unfortunately, the excessive length, an unnecessary act (a very long sequence that takes place in France), and the lack of more tension and action scenes make it a bit hard to follow. The good news is that the bromance between Jonathan Majors and Glen Powell, and the discourse about challenging the system, are enough elements to at least not throw away the joint effort behind this production.
