Review of Devil's Rain (2009) by The G — 08 Oct 2007
This is one of those weird films that's just an awesome combination of bizarre storytelling juxtaposed by a surprisingly good cast. They do their best with what they've got.
The Devil's Rain is one of those films that's got that word of mouth, cult following because in all honesty I haven't heard much about the film from anybody other than tidbits here and there, but who can really resist a movie about The Devil with such a great actor like Borgnine and marginal roles by Skerritt and yes, Shatner. John Travolta plays one of the cult followers but sadly his screen time is very limited.
The movie starts out with a bang, or perhaps I should say a "slosh" as we see Mark Preston's (played by Shatner) father come back and melt into the Rain....perhaps "The Devil's Rain"? Borgnine has been after the Preston ranch and Shatner is out to put a stop to it.
Venturing out to stop Borgnine, Mark falls into a trap of the Worshippers and it falls upon Tom Preston (played by Skerritt) to get to the bottom of this.
This movie is chock full of talk about the Devil, Satanic Rituals and just stuff so out there it's weird they got such famed actors like Borgnine and Shatner to take part in it, but to be fair Shatner wasn't doing much else. This movie also has a cameo by Anton LeVay which is pretty neat, he is the High Priest and founder of "The Church Of Satan".
When it comes down to it, this movie is just fun, an absurd mid 70's trip into Satanism and the Occult that really does have to be seen to believed.
