Review of Devil's Rain (2009) by Jason G — 13 Nov 2007
Not half bad...
A few things to consider:
1. Shatner has gone on to become a parody of himself but back in '75, he wasn't that bad an actor.
2. It's unfair to consider John Travolta as an actor in this film... he's in the credits but only appears in the film for 15 seconds and is so heavily made-up you'll miss him if you blink.
Director Robert Fuest used alot of great angles and framing in this movie. I especially enjoyed the numerous, long, establishing shots where the characters or actions he wanted captured in the film would suddenly break into the static stillness of the shot by walking, driving or otherwise appearing into the frame.
The story is decent and unconventional (to a point) and even the effects are very effective considering the budget and the era.
THE EXORCIST set a whole new standard for horror movies in the seventies and unfortunately, many films like this one got lost in the shuffle.
It's a pretty good flick...
