Review of Devil (2010) by Mohammad H — 19 Jul 2012
Shyamalan...the man has spent the past 10 years trying to flush a promising career firmly down the toilet. Interestingly here he's credited with the script but has handed over the directorial duties to Dowdle, the man who brought us the pointless but efficient enough remake of [rec].
On the basis of this film, it's perhaps the way forward for M. Night. There's a large dose of overblown relgious subtext which anyone who's seen 'Signs' will quickly recognise but despite that this is an overall success.
A simple concept of strangers in a lift who slowly start to perish is handled really well and with sufficient tension and interest. Really rather good.
