Review of Devil (2010) by Jacob M — 09 Sep 2015
The premise of this film certainly has loads of promise, but I find the acting rather weak and with some definite problems, particularly that of the stereotypical, hyper-Catholic Mexican. The film certainly is able to build tension throughout the first part, but I feel it looses it in the middle.
There's a very fine line between claustrophobic and constrained and I feel the film crosses that line after a while. Still, the climax and everything that follows it show just how strong the film could have been and helped make sure I didn't regret watching it.
While I'm probably not going to rush back and see it again, Devil is a film that paid off in the end for me and showed that Shyamalan has the potential to do good movies.
