Review of Devil (2010) by Howie V — 15 Apr 2012
When you make a movie about lucifer you're up against it: Devil's Advocate, The End of Days, Constantine...and that. Not to mention I was raised Catholic - and so are a lot of people who'd be interested in this - so it's like, "What?" The Night Chronicals proved up to the task. In many ways this is like the Val Kilmer movie where he locks those people in the steamroom and cranks it up. You have to wonder about the people who come up with this stuff. Then to spend x years devoted to such projects?
M. Night Shyamalan is one clever bastard. Who gets on an elevator and doesn't select a floor...someone who's just along for the ride, baby [hint-hint].
I do believe in the devil but, all things being equal, the devil can kiss my ass. M. Night Shyamalan properly exposes him as the attention whore he is. Show off. City of brotherly love, huh? The only reason to fear a s.o.b. like that is if you've done something unforgivable. For the rest of us it's just harmless noise - thunder and howl - because FAITH AND REASON TRUMP FEAR. I'd like to get that bitch in the ring. This one allows us to do that.
"It's okay because if the devil exists then that means God does too." - Ramirez's mom.
