Review of Devil (2010) by Isaac C — 12 Jun 2014

Short length but enough thrill and mystery pack in. Chris Messina is police detective, investigate a case which a man jump and land on top of a truck with rosary in his hand. He think it started in another building and with his partner Joshua Peace they walk towards the building.

Bokeem Woodbine, Bojana Novakovic, Geoffrey Arend, Logan Marshall-Green and Jenny O'Hara take the elevator and it stalled. The guard Matt Craven ask Joe Cobden to check it out. Chris and Joshua arrive and saw the shattered glass from 35th floor.

Joe restart the lift system. Bokeem is claustrophobic. The lift lights flicker and Joe decide next best thing to do is go up and climb down to the lift and manually restart it. He hear noise at the pit and saw a raccoon.

The lift suddenly drop and he is lucky to escape. The lift inside blackout and Bojana fell down and is cut on her back. Geoffrey has blood on his coat and the others think he have a blade with him. He says she must have fell and go towards him hence the cut.

The guards call the police and Chris responded. Jacob Vargas is another guard and he rewind the CCTV and saw a creepy face image. Chris go to the control room to calm them down and control the situation.

He get Joshua to run through the visitor log and account the identity of those trap in lift. Another blackout in the lift and Geoffrey is killed by the shattered glass inside. Jacob believe this is devil doing, it torment the damned before killing them.

Bokeem has many bad record for assault. Forensic Caroline Dhavernas is at 35th floor and says the suicide note is rational except the last part saying the devil is near. Fire department arrived to try open the lift door.

Logan climb up the lift because he is a mechanic. Bokeem drag him down when Bojana say he is trying to escape. Chris check with the office which Geoffrey is going to. He is a scumbag who started a ponzi scheme that cheated many people's money.

Meanwhile Logan suggest frisk each other and know one another better. Joe descend down the shaft but Matt radio him reply and he lost balance and fell to death. Jenny push the dead leg to Bokeem and they quarrel.

She want to spray pepper to him but it expired many years ago. Chris go up to confirm Joe is dead. He want the firemen to breach through the wall. Chris look through the victims CCTV during registration and saw Logan coming in with a satchel but in the lift he don't have it.

Then the lift blackout again and Jenny is hanged to death. Chris order building shut down. He retrace the steps and find the satchel in the restroom, full of screws and stuff. Jacob start to say prayer to the lift.

Logan think Bokeem is lying about his claustrophobia and they fight. Bojana want Bokeem to kill Logan. Chris ask them to place hand on wall. Joshua find out Bojana is alos criminal, blackmailing rich man.

She's to meet a lawyer. Chris question the lawyer and contact her husband. Matt off the gas switch for fireman. He saw a loose cable and try to hook it out from the water and is fried. Bojana husband most likely know she is running away with all his money and want her dead.

The building security is own by her husband. Blackout in lift again and Chris want them to shine the cellphone light on each other. Bojana ask Bokeem to protect her from Logan. Their cellphones dropped and Bokeem is dead from twisted neck.

The 2 last survivors take glass shards to arm. Chris persuade them to put down. Bojana hide a glass in her back pocket. Blackout again and Logan shine the cellphone on her but dropped. Light back on and Bojana is killed.

A woman enter and say her fiance is Logan who has a job interview. She is to collect the tools from him. Her last name is "Janekowski" and they thought it belong to the old lady Jenny. So now only she is unaccounted for.

Jenny stand up and make Logan remember years ago he crash his car with another car and kill two persons. The lift drop down and the radio fell. Logan reveal his crime to Chris. As he confess to his sins, the devil in Jenny cannot take him away and she disappeared.

Fireman open the lift and Chris can't find Jenny. Later he tell Logan the mother and son he killed is his wife and son. He forgive Logan.
