Review of Detropia (2012) by Deepak A — 12 Mar 2013
This is a very melancholic documentary, presenting as it does a bleak and unflinching portrait of a desperately ailing city that once was Dancing in the Streets and humming like the engines it was known for.
It's an unsparing view of one city's fall from grace. Even the influx of "artists" attracted to cheap rent and a city in ruins failed to inspire much hope. I felt like I could hear Marvin Gaye's voice softly singing "What's Going On" in every depiction of misery, struggle, and decay.
